excerpts from the FEBRuary AND MARCH stated SESSION meetingS

During their February and March Stated Session Meetings, your Elders took action regarding and/or discussed the following matters:

  • Learned that our church’s periodic report of a nonprofit corporation had been filed appropriately with the Secretary of State

  • Approved the use of the Sanctuary on Saturday, November 27, for a Blessing of the Rings ceremony for Ryan and Heather Clifton Johnson.

  • Received a report from Commissioners to Presbytery Don Burton and Mark Tuttle.

  • Approved the adult baptism of Jason Loftin and the infant baptism of Jason and Christina Loftin’s daughter Corbyn.

  • Discussed possible Session objectives for our church in 2010, and by consensus prioritized the following three:  1) Assess the needs of our church, 2) Assimilate new members better, and 3) Revitalize our inactive members.

  • Approved Youth Director Doug Everett driving the church van now that he has turned 21.  

  • Learned that the Administration and Personnel Ministry Team has now completed the revision of our church’s Operating, Policy, and Procedures Manual, subject to final review by Rev. Jack.

  • Heard that $180 was raised from the Sweetheart Dinner fundraiser.

  • Learned that in January contributions exceeded expenses by $2,181.19.

  • Learned that the Korean congregation will be joining us for our Easter worship service.

  • Approved the use of our church van to take children and parents to Houston during the week of spring break to either the Zoo or to the Children’s Museum.

  • Held further discussion regarding Session objectives for 2010.

  • Acknowledged the purchasing of resource materials for this summer’s Vacation Bible School.

  • Was reminded of our All-Church Retreat on Saturday, March 27, and the need for volunteers to help with set-up, clean-up, and getting to and from the church.

  • Approved a motion to begin hosting in our Parlor on Friday nights “42 Night” sponsored by City Recreation.

  • Approved a PDO field trip to participate in Huntsville’s Arbor Day Celebration on April 15 at Sam Houston Park on 19th Street.

  • Approved a motion that a memorial fund be set up for PW to honor deceased Presbyterian Women.

  • Learned that PW has prepared 50 hygiene kits for Haiti.

  • Learned that PW has selected and purchased new carpet to be installed in the Parlor using funds for their annual Red Stocking Dinners.
